What led you to this career?
I got a scholarship to play college football and tore my ACL during camp and decided that it wasn't worth it. However, I didn't want to stop being a part of it all; so, I decided to major in athletic training. The idea of "teamwork," "problem solving," "collaboration" and being a part of someone's recovery continues to be a driving force in why I work in healthcare. I no longer provide athletic training coverage, but every day I get to work on issues that affect our community's health care.

Who is your greatest inspiration?
My wife. She put her professional life on hold until our kids were raised then went back to school and completed her degree in elementary education and is now working on her master's degree in special education. She valued the life we both wanted to give to our kids as they grew up and she has run our family with dignity and grace for close to 30 years.

How have you evolved and grown during your career?
I would say that I have learned to listen more intentfully. I have learned that I may not know all the answers but together, we can get to a solution that is impactful. Working to understand all sides and working on what I, personally, can do to be impactful is certainly a learned trait.

What is your foundation?
My wife and family ground me. I am just "dad" when I'm not at work. I love watching them become young adults. I continue to encourage them to be a part of solutions that they are passionate about. Don't be a naysayer, be the change you want to see in your community, your family or your work.

What is one piece of advice that has served you well in your journey and who did you get it from?
"Do what you love and you will never have to go to work". My dad has told me this often. He is full of these little phrases. "Perseverance and Determination will lead you to success". I love what I do and I am determined to make a difference and to be impactful for my family, my community and my employer.

What do you do for fun or to recharge?
Spending time with family and playing golf with my buddies. Oh, and watching the Dallas Cowboys, Kansas Jayhawks and any team at Sedgwick!

What music artist do you never get tired of?
Metallica. Yes, I'm a 'headbanger' from the 80's.

What is the most important part of your work?
Solving the healthcare issues that impact our community. The delivery of healthcare is something I don't take lightly. As a healthcare organization, our community expects that we are providing care that is cost effective, accessible, built on quality and delivered with compassion. Understanding what I bring to the discussion and then collaborating with our community to make a positive impact is quite fulfilling.
