What characteristics do you value most in your coworkers?
My coworkers are some of the most driven, passionate and empathetic humans I know! Working with students in middle and high schools, survivors of trauma and exploitation, and people from many different backgrounds can be heavy and exhausting work. My coworkers not only serve clients, students and the community well, they look out for each other.

What are you grateful for?
I'm extremely grateful for the donors and volunteers that support our work. Every dollar that comes into our organization comes from someone's generosity. I get to do work that is meaningful and important to me because someone else gave of their time or treasure. I don't ever take that for granted.

Who would play you in a movie about your life?
Probably Emma Stone or Jennifer Lawrence. Not because I look like either of them but because I think they could accurately capture my humor, sarcasm (we call her Salty Jen) and awkwardness!

If you could choose one superhuman ability, what would it be?
My youngest and I recently debated which would be better- the ability to shape shift or to speak and understand every language. We decided language because you could travel and communicate anywhere in the world and experience so many things!

What do you love most about your work?
What I love most about my work is the opportunity to work with the community and professionals from many different disciplines. ICT SOS works with schools, law enforcement, medical professionals, social workers, and many others. I get a peek into the worlds of some of our community's biggest heroes!

What is one piece of advice that has served you well in your journey and who did you get it from?
I don't know that I could narrow it down to one piece of advice but Diana Schunn, Executive Director of the Child Advocacy Center of Sedgwick County, has been a role model and friend to me since the day I stumbled into the nonprofit world. I have gone to her often to seek her counsel on different situations and she always has advice that is centered in kindness and integrity.

Who is your greatest inspiration?
Anyone who knows me knows that I am a huge fan of the late Fred Rogers. His message that every person has value and worth drives the work I do. He seemed like a just mild-mannered TV host but in reality his work was deeply researched and intentional. His lessons on being a good neighbor, having hard conversations, looking for the helpers and seeing the unique specialness of every person inspire me daily.

What is your leadership style?
I'd describe my leadership style as servant leadership. I believe that if I do all I can to serve and care for the people I've been entrusted to lead, they will excel in the work they are tasked to carry out. This means advocating for competitive wages and benefits, providing a safe and healthy work environment, being flexible and creative in how we work, and being their biggest cheerleader as they seek out opportunities to learn and grow. By serving my staff well, I believe they are better equipped to serve our clients, students and community partners well.
